Truck load of General Lees
I saw this truck full of copies of the General Lee today at the motel parking lot near Flying J on the Grapevine (a mountain pass a little north of Magic Mountain).
As a kid, I was a fan of The Dukes of Hazzard... eep! I was just looking for the IMDB link to the old 1979 series to put with the title, and I found an entry for a 2005 movie! Well, that might explain why a truckload of them is being moved around. In case you aren't familiar with the premise, it's about the Duke family and their back-woods adventures, including outrunning crooked cops, in Hazzard County. The main things I remember from it are the orange car pictured, and Daisy Duke, whose outfit of choice helped coin the term "Daisy Duke shorts."

More pictures behind the cut.

Bigger version of the first picture.
Close-up of one car. You can see the text: General Lee on the top.

The con (Gallifrey One) was very fun, entertaining, and relaxing. nolly gave me nifty cool Japanese stuff and was nifty and nolly-like. I had a nap friday, massage and long bath on Saturday, before attempting to dance at the dance. Note: A dance mix of "Hit Me Baby One More Time" by Britney is not a good choice for a con dance. Pearl was being non-vocal (voice mostly gone), so I got to practice my ASL. I really want to continue with that. Maybe I'll sign up for the online class that sarahemm is in.

Eek what? The new Dukes of Hazzard movie? The Britney song at the dance? The dancing hamsters?

Serious eek when you consider that Jessica Simpson is playing Daisy Duke. *G*

I loved that series! I've actually been to the tiny town in GA that they filmed the pilot in (it's the same one they filmed that Friday the 13th movie I was squealing about a couple of weeks ago. Covington, GA)
I had a massive crush on John Schneider (Bo Duke) who now plays the dad on Smallville!

it's nifty (the online classes). probably fairly basic for you (but good for me 'cuz i was just starting) tho. i dunno :)
i've just started working through them again after taking a couple weeks off and just practicing (well, using ASL when i'm not so able to do the verbalness stuff) frequently...

Well, I feel pretty lost and in a big need for review before I can go off and take the second class... or I might find the online one a good substitute for now. We can practice whenever you visit too.

I came in late; where is this online ASL class to be found?

Some of those cars look a bit beaten up. But I guess no-one's going to notice with those cars flying through the air.

Also, note the BFG tires. :)

Maybe some of them are *supposed* to look beaten up. Kind of like painting scars on an actor....
ashiashi on February 21st, 2005 06:11 am (UTC)
Maybe they were used in the original TV series... I heard they would often use up a few cars an episode, doing jumps and whatnot. It would make sense to bring in some leftovers for the movie...

Just how old would those cars be? Would they be looked after all that time, coming out looking like the cars on that trailer? Somehow, I don't think so...
ashi: charybdisashi on February 21st, 2005 09:05 am (UTC)
Well...

The closest one on the bottom looks horribly faded.
I doubt they actually make that exact car any more.
It seems likely some of the leftovers were purchased by collectors, who took good care of them, and might be willing to sell or lend them for use in the movie.

The movie Tucker supposedly featured most of the remaining Tuckers in existance, as well as some cars reworked to look like Tuckers. Only 51 were ever made.

Hmmmm... Good point.

i dont know if you remember my grand torino--the gold tone one-- named Michelle. the General Lee is a grand torino much like mine was. that's the reason why i loved it so much.

also...i was watching CMT (country music television) and it seems that they're going to be playing the dukes of hazzard all next week...or maybe this week. anyway...here's the link

Ah, I remember TV.
Mostly now for me it's this thing that people in Japan capture episodes from, that I get directly via Winny or indirectly via fansubbers...
Though I actually watched a bit of TV news during Gallifrey (one of the 4 cons in California I know of that went on last weekend).
