Inland Empire memories
I saw the phrase "Inland Empire" in a posting today, and some memories came back to me. I can almost taste the donuts...

See, there was a C/FO chapter in Redlands, California, called C/FO Inland Empire. C/FO was the Cartoon/Fantasy Organization, which started in Los Angeles and had chapters all over the place, and is now down to just Los Angeles again, which is part of LASFS. I lived in Fullerton, about an hour away from Redlands, and it was something to do. It was kind of novel to drive out to the desert for an anime club. Wayne Wright was head of that chapter, and there was this girl from San Bernardino who went, Jennifer. I had a crush on her.

When we were in town for one of those meetings, we wandered down Highway 38 (Lugonia Blvd / Mentone Blvd) into the small town of Mentone. It had a tiny building that was a library, and a Donut Hut. We, like, totally had to stop at Donut Hut, and it was tasty. It became a sort of special find. We went back a few more times, but the last time, there were a lot of flies in the donut display case. It apparently shut down in 1995... we must have gone there in the late 80's.

If I find my way back there, I'll try to find the closed-down restaurant and (hopefully still active) library and take pictures.

I grew up in Redlands until I was 14, and we moved to Yucaipa.

I remember you mentioning that area. Ever been to Donut Hut? Mentone, or another location perhaps? There are a few still in the area...

This has absolutely nothing to do with your post, sorry. ._.

I saw your comment in my LJ and I noticed the Aishiteruze Baby icon, and then I got to thinking, "Hey! I've got highspeed now! I can download it!" Sooo, I was wondering if you could tell me where I might find subbed episodes of the gloriously cute series that I like so very much. Either comment back in my LJ or email me at sakana at gmail dot com (replace the 'at' with @, take out the spaces, and so on and so forth.)

Well, my post did mention anime...

If you don't have a Bittorrent client, grab one. My favorite is ABC: http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/
followed by Azureus: http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ (I use Azureus on my Mac.)

Go to Lunar's torrent site: http://a.scarywater.net/lunar/
and get [Lunar] Aishiteru ze Baby 1-26 (complete). :)
Leave it going for a day or two, and there you go.

Can I leave Bittorrent up and play WoW at the same time? Because if it's one or the other, I'll have to take the episodes a chunk at a time, since WoW has priority over my bandwidth.

You can. It should work fine. With ABC you can set your default upload speed for a torrent and the speed for each individual torrent. With Azureus you can set the total upload speed. You can figure out what your max upload is and then set to a fraction of that so WoW has enough to work with.

Also, you can stop a torrent and continue it later.

Wow, I remember now. We bought some kind of powder at a market and wrote "Die C/FO" in the grass by their meeting place the night before one of their meetings! I suppose it only counts as an attempted prank, since the grass didn't even brown a bit... we went back to check within a few days, and there was no sign of it. Liquid bleach probably would have worked better...
