Waiting for my first manzai show to start. In Osaka.

*jealousy* Lisa was just a little while ago wishing we were in Japan again, either for the pork buns in Hakata, the little noodle house near Shinigawa, the Kato store in Osaka, or the Family Marts (and other konbini seemingly everywhere.

When I was in Japan the first time for Worldcon, I promised myself I'd come back in a year and a half, for winter. I hated the muggy weather in the summer, and learned the word "mushiatsui" for it.

Then I was unemployed when that winter came around. So a year after that, here I am. :)

Is your Japanese good enough to follow it?

Yakyu no chiimu wa dare ni ichiban, nan ni niban, to shiranai ni sanban...

I followed a bit more of it than I thought I would. They talked very quickly, as I expected. Unabara YasuyoTomoko did a nice routine about Tokyo dialect vs. Osaka-ben. Oshidori: the guy bent colored wire into animals, while the woman played the accordian, while they did their jokes. A little boy did a juggling and balancing act. There was also a long ryoukan skit, and the big joke was a guy with a particular accent that the other characters couldn't follow. The woman next to me didn't know which accent it was.

They asked how far people had come to see the show, and I said, "Karifo-nia kara," and they were surprised. I saw very few gaijin in the audience.

A few routines went completely beyond me, not surprisingly.

Oh and, who's on first? :)
