3/1/09 steampunky anime
I'm going to run anime for ConDor again next year. Since the theme is steampunk, I'm yet again brainstorming anime that fits a theme. So far:
Last Exile came to me first.
Sadly would have to pay to show Metropolis or any of the Disney licensed Miyazaki films. Also Windaria was only released dubbed, edited, on VHS in the US as far as I know.

I have seen:

Read or Die (OVA)
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
Robot Carnival
Fullmetal Alchemist
Gankutsuo
Trinity Blood

Seen but unsure:
Trigun
Wolf's Rain
Nanoha?
Strike Witches??

Haven't seen yet:

Steam Detectives
Steamboy
Cluster Edge
Sakura Wars
Blood Omen
D Gray Man
Samurai 7
Kino's Journey
The Mystical Geographic Exploration of Jasper Morelle
Kuroshitsuji

Kino and Samurai 7 are both pretty good; Kuroshitsuji is really a niche thing, but isn't too bad.
Nadia hasn't been "big" for a long time... oh man :)
I dunno if I'd call Strike Witches steampunk... even less than Nanoha...

Thanks. I'll try them out.
Nanoha I'll probably show anyway since I love it and it's finally on DVD.
Strike Witches has some interesting tech, but yeah... I'll prolly skip it for a number of reasons. :)

Sadly, I have not seen any steampunk series.

I had been quasi-avoiding the genre, not having a good reliable series to start with. I've been meaning to see Steamboy though.

08:46 < KasugaKyousuke> ashi: Adventures of the Airship Patapata (Secret of
Cerulean Sand)
08:47 < KasugaKyousuke> (both it and Nadia:SoBW were based on that one book by
Jules Verne)

Thanks, IRC!

I didn't like steamboy all that much myself, but I think steampunk fans would.

Steamboy is definately steampunk. Samurai 7 too.

Sakura Wars/Taisen is steampunk but the majority of it is seen with the girls' mechs, and apart from that, it's about the girls themselves so I don't know how close to the theme you want to keep it. n.n;

Steam Detectives is certainly steampunk. I don't know if Wolf's Rain counts as steampunk...
