melty switch
Last night at weepingmoon's house, I lost connection to anysize.org. I tried several times, tried pinging other computers i the house... nothing.

So tonight I got home to find my PC complaining that it had physically lost its network connection. I checked the switch next, and saw the lights were out. I checked the power connection... ow! The power adapter for the switch was hot. It has a melty spot on it.

Dug up an old 10/100 switch since it was 11pm and stores were closed, and it's working fine for now. Weird huh?

Weird in the bad way. This is why things like consumer power adapters are untrustworthy, and why rack mounts are Worth It (TM).

Componets do fail from time to time.

It's good that it did't get to the "burst into flames" point of broken-ness.
