I like my EEE too, though I don't use it much. What model did she get? Linux or Windows?

Linux. The old Xandros is kind of weird and hard to install stuff, even after you unlock full desktop mode. For example, the repository has such old versions that a lot of software complains and won't install unless you manually build a bunch of stuff.

Going to help install Ubuntu EEE, which worked great for another EEE convert friend.

I used eeebuntu(.org), but I missed my standard desktop. So this weekend, I reinstalled the machine with the super-standard Ubuntu install ISO. After that, I ran the niceeepc script. That fixed everything for me.
(Just answer 'no' when it asks if you want to install recommended software -- you'll get lots and lots of stuff that you may or may not be interested in.)

I'm really happy with that -- now it's just like my desktop, which I know my way around in. Saves me from learning slightly new tricks. ;)

They really are cute. :) I wish they weren't so expensive over here.
