11/9/08 cables
Yay, only took me a bit over an hour to run cables under the house this time.

Aww, I hope it was fun. I always blast the music up on high when I do stuff around the house.

They do sell (expensive) magnetic pullers for those who do this a lot. I'm tempted to try to make my own - I've got enough neodymium magnets sitting dangerously close to electronics, but the little bulb-shaped piece of metal is rather hard to find. I suppose you could use some other things as well.

Next time you're pulling cable, try something creative and tell us how it goes, kay? :D

Magnetic eh? That could be fun.

Last night, I measured out 3 cat6 cables and bundled them together every few feet with stretchy packing tape. I used my height to measure them... do I get creativity points there?

I got one of those little boards with wheels mechanics use, though this one spot was so tight I needed to get off it and do the army crawl. I put a coat hanger through the hole in the floor at my destination and brought a little roll of packing tape so I could attach the end and later pull it through the hole (and through all the insulation stuff that is under my mobile home). I also taped a fork to the end inside the house so I wouldn't pull it through.

There are some handy openings along the underside that look like they're meant for pulling cable through, so I generally use those. I wonder if I could feed them through well with a magnetic solution... the hard part is generally climbing over and under stuff just to get to where the cables need to go.

Hmmm is it something like this? http://magnepull.com/OldSite/insulated_wall_drop.wmv if so, that won't work for this kind of cabling, but it's awfully cool for cables through walls.

Ohh... I want one.
